Bass Lessons

Bass Lessons at On Stage Music Academy

Why learn Bass?  For anyone exploring what instrument to try, bass is a great choice.  Bass is really fun to play, easier to learn than many instruments, and you will always have places to play. Bands are always looking for a bass player.

Bass Lessons at On Stage Music Academy are tailored to who YOU are, your likes and skills. Whether you are just beginning or a bit more advanced, you will have fun.  Jam and play your favorite tunes to build skills and experience.  You’ll study left and right hand techniques, slap, pop, improving groove, timing, and feel.  When you are ready, we want you to be part of an amazing rhythm section with one of our student bands.  Here’s what our typical bass lessons look like:

Warm ups:Bass Lessons Performance

Warm ups get you ready to play and practice between lessons.  Each session, you will warm up with some simple exercises. It’s very important to warm up those hands and wrists. Not only will it make your playing smoother, but you’ll avoid injuries like carpel tunnel in the long run. We’ll start every lesson with quick warm ups that you can do at home.

song work:Bass Lessons On Stage Music Academy

All of our bass lessons are focused on song work. The best way to learn is by playing the music that inspired you to pick up the bass in the first place! If you’re a beginner, don’t worry. Many pop and rock songs are a lot easier to play than you think. You’ll be surprised what you can play without many lessons at all.  Songs are the reason to play bass.  They are the reward for your hard work.  You will pay lots of songs with us.

technique/book work:

As you grow within the world of music and learn to play awesome songs, you’ll notice that each song is a unique collections of chords, notes, riffs, and licks. Those musical pieces can be borrowed and reconstructed in tons of creative ways. With the help of some music theory knowledge, we’ll help you build your personal arsenal of riffs and licks that you can use to solo, improvise, and wright your own bass lines.

Music theory:Bass Lessons Picture

We know what you might be thinking… and yes, theory can be boring, BUT not the way we teach it. Our bass lessons only teach you what’s relevant with the kind of song/technique/style we’re working on in the moment. To put it simply, we don’t just teach you HOW to play, but WHY it works. You’ll walk away with a rich understanding of music and the ability to play whatever’s on your mind, WITHOUT sheet music! (although, we’ll teach you how to read that, too!)

homework:

One of the most difficult barriers to overcome while learning an instrument is knowing exactly what to practice. Sure, they all say, “PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!”, but what do you practice? How do you know that your practice is actually helping? At the end of our bass lessons, we’ll discuss what we learned along with WHY we learned it. We’ll let you know EXACTLY what you need to take home and practice before net week’s lesson so that you’re constantly growing.
