Drum Lessons

Drum Lessons at On Stage Music Academy

Get your groove on with our drum lessons program – private instruction to guided band practices, you get the whole experience from the beginning. Play on a full acoustic drum set and a pro electronic set. You’ll have opportunities to work with cajon, conga, and latin percussion so you are experienced in every situation. Here’s what our typical drum lessons look like:

warm ups:Drum Lessons

You can imagine that drumming can be some serious work, especially on the shoulders, arms, and wrists. If you’re practicing a lot (as you should be!), it’s very important to warm up with stretches and exercises. Not only will this loosen up your playing for smooth grooves, but it will help to prevent injuries in the long run. We start every lesson with quick warm ups and stretches that you can do at home to ensure drumming health!

Drum Lessons Roomsong work:

All of our drum lessons are focused on song work. The best way to learn is by playing the songs that inspired you to pick up the sticks in the first place! We’ll be able to show you the unique styles and techniques of your favorite bands and artists to help you reach your aspirations. Our drum instructors are experienced with almost all styles, like early Dave Grohl, relaxed Ringo Starr, energetic Keith Moon, and reggae or latin styles.

technique/book work:

As you grow within the world of music and learn to play various songs, beats, and rhythms, you’ll notice certain similarities across different artists. These tricks and techniques can be borrowed and reconstructed in tons of creative ways. We’ll help you build your personal arsenal of techniques that you can use to solo, fill, improvise, and even wright your own eats.

Music theory:Drum Lessons at On Stage Music Academy

We know what you might be thinking… and yes, theory can be boring, BUT not the way we teach it. Our drum lessons only teach you what’s relevant with the kind of song/technique/style we’re working on in the moment. Mainly, you’ll be learning how to connect your drumming with other instruments, such as guitar, bass, and vocals. That’s what the ultimate goal is after all; providing the heartbeat and soul for a fully functioning band!

homework:

One of the most difficult barriers to overcome while learning the drums is knowing exactly what to practice. Sure, they say, “PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!”, but what do you practice? How do you know that your practicing is actually helping? At the end of our drum lessons, we’ll discuss what we learned along with WHY we learned it. We’ll let you know EXACTLY what you need to take home and practice before next week’s lesson so that you’re constantly growing.
