Guitar Lessons at On Stage Music Academy
Our Guitar Lessons program is excellent for kids, for teens, and for adults – easy and fun for absolute beginners to shredders who melt strings. Jam and play your favorite tunes to build skills and ability! Grow at your pace, practicing left and right hand techniques, chords & scales, modes, tone building and most importantly, confidence. Whether you’re interested in acoustic or electric, we’ll help you get to the level you want to be. Here’s what our typical guitar lessons look like:
Most don’t know that your wrists and fingers tend to fall asleep a bit when you’re not using them frequently. One of the first things many guitarists do when they pick up the guitar is warm ups. Our guitar lessons keep warm ups short, sweet, and fun. Not only will it make your playing smoother, but you’ll avoid injuries like carpel tunnel in the long run. We’ll start every lesson with quick warm ups that you can do at home.
All of our guitar lessons are focused on song work. The best way to learn is by playing the music that inspired you to pick up the guitar in the first place! If you’re beginning from the start, don’t worry. Songs like “Yellow Submarine” by the Beatles are easier to play than you think! You’ll be surprised at what you can play without any lessons at all!
As you grow within the world of music and learn to play awesome songs, you’ll notice that each song is a unique collection of riffs and licks. Those same riffs and licks, however, can be borrowed and reconstructed in tons of creative ways. With the help of some music theory knowledge, we’ll help you build your personal arsenal of riffs and licks that you can use to solo, improvise, and wright your own music.
We know what you might be thinking… and yes, theory can be boring, BUT not the way we teach it. Our guitar lessons only teach you what’s relevant with the kind of song/technique/style we’re working on in the moment. To put it simply, we don’t just teach you HOW to play, but WHY it works. You’ll walk away with a rich understanding of music and the ability to play whatever’s on your mind, WITHOUT sheet music! (although we’ll teach you how to read that, too!)
One of the most difficult barriers to overcome while learning guitar is knowing exactly what to practice. Sure, they all say, “PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!”, but what do you practice? How do you know that your practicing is actually helping? At the end of our guitar lessons, we’ll discuss what we learned along with WHY we learned it. We’ll let you know EXACTLY what you need to take home and practice before next week’s lesson so that you’re constantly growing.
